Edwin Nnabugwu Nwokocha was born to the family of Vincent and Monica Nwokocha of Ugwuele Uturu, in the then Eastern Region. Eddy, as he is fondly called from childhood, was born in Warri, Midwest Region, where he started his early education. In late 1966, Eddy, along with his siblings, moved to Ugwuele because of the Nigerian civil war. After completing elementary five at Ugwuele Community Primary School, Eddy entered secondary school in January 1973.
Unfortunately, seven days after entering secondary school, his father, Vincent, was shot and killed in a mysterious way. He was raised by a single mother and, after graduating from secondary school in 1977, Eddy remained in Ugwuele for one year with his cousin, Dr. Jonas Nwafor Ibeaja. He was mentored by Dr. Ibeaja, of blessed memory, he believe that one can be whatever he wants to be if he works hard and believes in the Almighty God. In January 1999, Eddy moved to Lagos to seek employment. After three months of employment with Power Lines Nigeria Limited, an opportunity came for Eddy to work in the prestigious law firm known as Chris Ogubanjo & Co Solicitors, where he worked as a clerk. As the first indigenous commercial law firm in Nigeria, Eddy was opportune to work with prominent barristers, like Barristers Joshua Adekoya, Emmanuel Idowu, Udo Udoma, and George Etomi. His contact with these prominent lawyers boosted his quest to become a lawyer someday. Eddy struggled for five years to gain admission to any Nigerian university without success. Thanks to Chief Morgan Silas Okezuonu Iroha, of blessed memory, Eddy moved to the United States of America to pursue his dream in education. After his graduation from the University of Houston with a degree in Bachelor of Science, he proceeded to Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree. Having passed the Texas Bar Exam, Eddy was admitted to practice law in the State of Texas and the Federal Courts.
